Our Story

Tide & Timber – Wrangell, Alaska

If you’ve spent any time in Southeast Alaska, you know one thing for sure:

You have to be a little salty to live here.

Tide & Timber was born from the place we call home—Wrangell, Alaska—where the forest meets the ocean and the tides shape everyday life. Out here, the rhythm of the water, the scent of spruce and cedar, and the long coastal winters become part of who you are.

Salt just seemed like the natural place to start.

The waters surrounding Wrangell are cold, clean, and rich with minerals carried down from glaciers and coastal rivers. We harvest ocean water by hand and slowly evaporate it to create small batches of pure sea salt. Just the ocean doing what it has done for thousands of years.  What begins as seawater becomes bright white crystals that carry the subtle mineral flavor of the North Pacific.

But salt was only the beginning.

Living where tide meets timber means we’re surrounded by incredible ingredients. On our farm at Oceanview Gardens, we grow herbs and vegetables in the challenging but rewarding environment of Southeast Alaska. Garlic, onions, peppers, dill, rosemary and many other flavors make their way into many of our blends.

Each batch reflects the place it came from—wild, coastal, and a little rugged around the edges.

Some blends are inspired by what we cook at home.
Some come from what grows best in our gardens.
And some are just born from experimenting in the kitchen on long rainy Alaskan days.

What they all share is a connection to this place.

Tide & Timber products are made in small batches with simple ingredients and a lot of care. Whether it’s seasoning a fresh salmon fillet, a perfectly grilled steak, roasted vegetables, or your morning eggs, our goal is simple:

Bring a little taste of coastal Alaska to your table.

Because around here, salt isn’t just an ingredient.

It’s a way of life.
